We've had a very busy winter, developing a variety of assembly kits for customers as diverse as the new concourse at Kings Cross station, the Doha residence in Quatar and a number of boats. Working in steel, aluminium and increasingly plywood and MDF, we can generate easy to build modular units for the latest curved architecture, working with Architects to achieve the exact complex curved surfaces that they require.

We've also been working with the team at Parkol Engineering in Whitby to provide a lengthening and hull refinement service, creating assembly systems for pre built bulb bows, centre sections and nozzles that allow fast fitting and finishing in their floating drydock.

We'll be at Digital Past 2012, the RCAHMW's excellent 2 day conference next week, then we're preparing for an interesting project, working with our Spanish partners at DOCTUM to record cave houses in the countryside around Granada.

Back in September we spent some time working with our colleagues on the About Houses project in the Friulian region of Italy. Part of the conference was a vist to the De Corte house in Ovasta, a small hillside village in Ovasta. This house has been owned by the same family since the 16th Century and is a fascinating mix of heritage and modern day living. We spent a day surveying with the laser scanner and panoramic camera, recording as much of the house as possible and below is some of the video we have produced from the laser scan data.

I will be presenting at the RIVIC Symposium on the 28th November in Bangor, North Wales on our houses project - we've been busy processing the data from the house we scanned in Ovasta, Italy and hope to present some of the data from that work.

Please download the event guide from here

Hope to see you at the day.

Big thanks to the team at the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales for a great 2 day Digital Past conference in Bodelwyddan, north Wales. Good to meet lots of people with a passion for Heritage and digital documentation.

Off to the Copper day in Swansea next month - sounds interesting for anyone in to industrial archaeology and social history. Makes a change from modelling dive support vessels, trawlers and Dutch barges for 7 days a week straight!

We've a 1 day mini conference on the Houses Project on April 5th, 2011 in Machynlleth for all interested parties. Final running list is still to be confirmed, but we definitely have a talk on the re construction of the Alhambra, Slate Miners housing in North Wales, Digital heritage and the People's collection, so there will be an interesting variety of professional development and local history interest.

If you're interested, please email, more details to follow on the programme.

Thank

Deri

We've been busy measuring fishing boats for Marine Design International in Glasgow for the past month or so, which has made for interesting travelling with the weather: two cancelled ferries, last minute flights and a delayed flight back from Shetland.

On the heritage side of the business, we're organising a meeting in Machynlleth in april to highlight our European houses project and the breadth of Welsh workers housing we'll be looking at - Copper, Slate and agriculture.

Our associates down at Specialist Models in Cardiff have some photos of the excellent rapid prototype models that they created from our hi-res scanning earlier in the year for the Museum in northern Ireland.

Finally, we're off to do the remaining sections of HMS Victory - more night work

I've spent the last few days in Ankara, Turkey, discussing a new European Commission project entitled "About Houses". Over the next 2 years we will be recording vernacular architecture in 7 partner countries across Europe and building an online training resource. DJA's role is to provide the technical knowledge on the recording of the houses and benchmark the records against some laser scan surveys. We've only just begun to get the website and content of the project sorted, but if you have an interest in heritage, old buildings, social history or would like to learn more about old houses across Europe, then please get in touch. I'll be blogging more about this project later and we'll be highlighting it to the press in the near future.
