Assembly systems

assembly system01Deri Jones & Associates Ltd have ten years experience in creating assembly kit systems for steel and aluminium vessels ranging from 3.4m RIBs to 34m superyachts. Working with our colleagues at Marine Design International, we transform a lines plan and structural drawings in to a detailed, CNC prepared assembly kit system, ready for cutting.

Benefits  for a yard

Benefits for Naval Architects

  • Fixed price for design

  • Detailed section list from structural drawings

  • Accurate CNC cut components with clear marking and part numbers

  • Known costs for materials prior to cutting.

  • Comprehensive set of assembly drawings, minimising measurement and shop floor downtime

  • Maximum use of folded components to minimise welding

  • Plating pre formed to templates allowing construction of more complex hull shapes

  • 3D modelling of structure allows flagging of problems prior to build

  • Structural detail faithfully modelled

  • Consistent detailing of classification society required structure.

  • Repeatability of build.

  • Pre formed plating allows more complex hull forms.

All assembly kit systems are designed in 3D, highlighting any design problems prior to assembly and are designed to minimassemblysystemise the time required on the shop floor. Parts are notched and designed to provide positive location to minimise measurement and ensure correct levelling. We discuss with the yard the best assembly sequence – using mini units, splitting parts and using clear naming conventions for parts to make the best use of the yards resources.

assemblykit00We make heavy use of the latest developments in plate forming, rolling and press brake to minimise welding and all parts arrive at the yard pre formed, with clear marking information and part numbers to ensure fast assembly. Complex hull shapes including round bilged yachts and true bulbous bows can be processed to ensure minimum work for the assembly yard.

NestingAll assembly systems are pre nested to ensure maximum use of plate and provide flexibility for cutting. We have experience of producing cut components in steel, aluminium and plywood using CNC plasma, flame, laser, waterjet and router cutting. All parts are traceable from design through cutting to the yard and construction. We are experienced at working to the requirements of classification societies such as Lloyds, DNV, GL and BV.
