Deri Jones & Associates (DJA) were asked to assist in the design and construction of a sculpture for public display in Barmouth town centre. Creu-ad were working in association Gwynedd County Council, and approached us for advice on possible designs within their budget.
History
Creu-ad have provided artistic attractions for many areas of Wales since establishing themselves in 2001. These include features in; Ynyslas nature reserve which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Cors Caron near Tregaron, Oxwich Bay on the Gower Peninsula, and Newborough Warren on Anglesey.Design
After meetings with Creu-ad, and agreeing on a suitable design for the location whilst fulfilling the artistic requirements of the project, a kit was developed for the sculpture along with a 3D model of the finished product to give the customer a clear image of the sculpture.
The kit was then sent to SM Thompson to be cut into steel parts, these were delivered to Nick Mortley Fabrications in Ceinws where the sculpture was assembled, welded together and painted. The completed sculpture was then delivered to Barmouth and fitted in the Memorial Gardens in Barmouth town centre.
